Sydney Confest CC Appropriation
Motion 1. That the sum of $32,000.00 be appropriated to the ConFest Committee for Sydney Confesters expenses covering their Spring (October 2021) and Summer (January 2022) gatherings.

Agenda Details: Sydney ConFesters (SC) is organising two 5-day gatherings in October 2021 and January 2022. For each gathering (limited to 120 attendees) a Covid-19 Safety Plan will be in place to reflect prevailing NSW Government health guidelines.

Since the early 2000s Sydney ConFesters has been able to remit a profit after the deduction of expenses (100% of gate takings) back to DTE. For FY ending 30 June 2020 two gatherings incurred a minor loss of $1270.31.

Depending on attendee numbers approximately 70% of this appropriation goes to the cost to hire a commercial camping site. Sydney ConFesters aims through adjusting its attendance fees to achieve a cost neutral account for FY21/22

Confab Appropriation
Motion 2. That the ConFab Committee be appropriated the amount of $2,500 dollars for the financial year ending 30th June 2022 for the purpose of purchasing equipment to use at ConFab events and for working capital to run ConFab events.

Explanation of motion.

Over the last several months ConFab events have been held under a new format. These have been meal nights at Lentil as Anything and have each attracted about 25 people to each event. This may be mirrored in the future in Sydney. The people involved in ConFab are interested in expanding ConFab’s activities in DTE. The following events have been discussed:

A ConFab village at ConFest (when it returns) and at related events such as the Sydney ConFest ConFab could sponsor Sharings at these events and could re-establish “Morning Sharing”. ConFab could appear at non DTE festivals and gatherings.
ConFab is a concept which could share space with any event DTE runs online.

Workshop days or weekends could be held on areas of interest which arise from ConFest. Social events similar to the original ConFab could be run.

Climate Emergency Declaration
Motion 8. Down To Earth (DTE) recognises that we are in a state of climate emergency that requires urgent action by all levels of government and civil society. DTE commits to actively working toward reducing the impacts of our events on global warming aiming to run zero emissions or climate positive events as soon as possible. This include accounting for the emissions of participants made in order to attend the event.

The Details: What is it?

A climate emergency declaration (CED) is a formal statement from an organisation that has two parts:

1. acknowledge the climate emergency 2. a commitment to act

The campaign was started in 2013 to get councils and higher levels of government to declare climate emergencies and take urgent action to reverse global warming

The first CED was by Darebin City Council, on 5 Dec 2016 a council in Melbourne.

Since then 1,891 councils, 35 states and provinces, 15 countries and the EU have declared, as well as

1,000’s of schools, churches, ngo’s business have also declared in support of the campaign. Why declare?

  • *  existing impacts are already devastating and unacceptable

  • *  some ecological systems have already started to collapse

  • *  we are currently on track for 3-4 degrees of temperature rise

  • *  this will make food growing difficult and see a massive increase to the impacts of the already worsening climatic conditions.

  • *  in Australia In Australian only 101 out of 537 councils have declared this is 19%

  • *  every declaration adds more pressure on higher levels of government and civil society to declare their own emergency and take emergency action to reverse global warming.
