The crew bunkhouse is now open for general member use June 2022 ! ! ! ! ! ! !
My vision for the bunkhouse is that people use it on their first night when they arrive on site and then set up their camp the next day . Also on the day before they leave site , they can pack up their campsite during the day when it is dry - ( so that they can just put their stuff away when they get home ) - sleep in the bunkhouse the night before and leave at whatever time suits then next day with grace and ease .
It could also be used by our older members who over the years have contributed so much and yet find it difficult to camp these days .
A number of people have used the bunkhouse whilst I have been working on it and a few have given feedback which I have done my best to address .
Photos 1 & 2 :- Outside the bunkhouse with Vienna Toma’s beautiful paintings on the front and side of the building and also the beautiful garden that she created around it with an abundance of herbs , pumpkins and tomatoes . There is a sign on the front door painted by Kevin Elliott , our volunteer bus driver , also an outside light above the door , fly screens on both windows and an electric siren on the back corner operated by a press switch on the cottage .
Photo 3 :- Is inside looking towards the vehicle shelter , there is a Holland blind and curtains over the window that let in just enough light in the morning so you don’t sleep in , a wall-mounted heater under the window , three clean ( yet slightly stained ) dressing gowns for your use , a 240 Volt smoke detector on the ceiling that gives off a faint green glow in the night and a fan with light to keep you cool in summer . All three inside lights are separately switched so as not to disturb others that might be sleeping .
Photo 4 :- Shows a base double bed with a single bed above , a door mat to wipe your feet just inside the door , rug on the floor with slippers and scales under the bed , plus blankets and doonas .
Photo 5 :- There is a hat and coat rack on the back of the door , a mirrored bathroom cabinet with a few supplies , under which is a shelf for charging your phone , an open wardrobe with some extra fans and heaters , dustpan and brush , Holland blind and curtain over the window , three small whimsical pictures on the walls and a rechargeable hand mosquito racket to help you sleep if you let any in .
If anyone comes across a strong single bunk bed with a ladder , there is space in the other corner for one !
The majority of things used to create this bunkhouse were done by me sourcing them at little or no cost to DTE .
