PURPOSE OF THE WORKING BEE
The Working Bee will focus on Landcare and getting ready for the next ConFest with repairs, maintenance etc. The Easter Working Bee will undertake Landcare + Maintenance and repairs + Next Festival Preparations (possibly Spring 2022 but more likely Easter 2023). It is important and crucial to manage the natural environment so the site is fit for purpose.
MORNING MEETINGS AT THE HIVE KITCHEN
Just like when a festival is on - all volunteers attend A WHS tool box talk, organise daily tasks and work teams, allocate resources of machinery and tools, specify PPE and identify possible hazards. A large stock of PPE is reportedly on site for use.
COVID-19 PLAN
New South Wales Government restrictions are being eased further as of Friday 18 February 2022. Covid-19 Safety Plans for “staff and customers” are optional for “businesses” involved in outdoor gatherings.
The working bee complies with all the requirements as outlined "Site Compliance"

EASTER 2022 WOOROOMA WORKING BEE COVID PLAN
Bring a personal supply of RAT tests, hand sanitiser, soap and face masks with you.
Wash your hands with soap or hand sanitiser often, before eating, after the toilet and before handling food. Avoid touching your face, mouth and nose.
Covid-19 symptoms may be fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste. If you have symptoms before leaving home please do not come to Woorooma. If you develop symptoms on your way, you and your party of fellow travellers in the vehicle need to turn around and return home. Once on site, if you become concerned you have Covid; Test, and if positive, inform organisers. For the safety of all, pack and leave the site IMMEDIATELY with whoever you arrived with in one car.
If you share a vehicle with others on site or to make excursions into town for supplies who are not family or from your party of fellow travellers please wear a face mask as if you were using public transport. When sharing a vehicle try to keep the windows open rather than have stuffy air recirculating. Similarly, although there are very few enclosed buildings on site, avoid entering them unless essential, dawdling or congregating inside and please wear a face mask while inside. Stay in the fresh air as much as possible.
There is a great deal of room on site and no need to squeeze your tents and vans together especially if you are not a family or a party of fellow travellers.
If businesses in town (Mooulamein, Swan Hill, Deniliquin etc.) have covid requirements, please follow those requirements.
Communal food preparation requires safe food handling methods. Always wash your hands before you begin. Wash dishes and cooking utensils in hot soapy water. Replace and wash tea towels to sanitise them regularly. Bring a good supply of your own freshly washed tea towels. Bring washing up gloves, detergent, sponges etc.
Respect other people's personal space if they prefer to keep some distance from you. Don't touch, hug or kiss without asking for and receiving explicit permission.
JOBS TO DO LIST
PREPARE THE SITE BY ERADICATING PRICKLY WEEDS, LOGS AND HAZARDOUS JUNK
(Follows on from the "Site fit for purpose" motion.)
Weed eradication is in the hands of the OC and Andrew reports that the green shoots are coming up from what has been slashed already. It is getting closer to the time when the spraying needs to be done. As yet a quote or quotes have not been presented to the OC with a budget application. The spraying can not be done among the camping working bee volunteers and a "holding period" time gap is needed. Follow up is required because (among the other reasons) the green shoots will begin to harden and the herbicide take up of the regrowth will be diminished/ineffective. The slashing effort will be wasted if it needs to be repeated and seasonal factors could push the job out till next summer.
Jobs include clearing weeds and undergrowth, raking leaves, clearing fallen deadwood, collecting and removal of junk / MOOP (material out of place).
MOWING AND SLASHING / PICKING UP BRANCHES / BURNING
Mowing and slashing of long grass and fire hazards. Picking up dead branches and sticks. Dead branches placed in piles to burn at the end of the working bee.
HIVE AND IMMEDIATE ENVIRONS
Clean and sweep the interior including benches, shelves, sinks and drainer. Repair holes in the hive roof, repair the scullery roof with ridge cap and close the open gable, clean undergrowth around the hive, empty the ash from the hive fire circle, remove and collect all the stray star pickets, clean fill and get hot water service going, collect wood for the sit around fire circle.
Complete the trench with conduit from the utility container to the hive with power and internet connection. Might need Red Priming Fluid and Type N Blue PVC Cement For Non Pressure Pipes.
DUNNIES
Get about 5 dispersed dunnies operational as a matter of priority. If dunnies have been smashed with a backhoe they need repair. Base boards may be weathered, rotten, white anted, delaminating and need replacement or painting. Plastic items including the tarps for the dunnies may be weathered beyond serviceable. Other plastic accessories such as lids, seats, scoops, buckets, ropes, stings may be degraded and unserviceable.
COOKING CIRCLES
Cooking Circles to be audited for possible clearing works with branches and leaves cleared, water lines checked, sullage drains and sand surfacing.
PLUMBING
Checking water lines and taps for leaks. Repair leaks as necessary.
STAY PUT FENCE
There is a huge pile of sawn timber posts near the cluster of first aid/ops containers that is meant to be for a fence project just weathering in the elements. This is for a fence between stay-put and come-and-go areas up on the plain. Posts are described as being required at 1.5m spacings.
AUDIT OF ABORIGINAL SACRED SITES
The Aboriginal Sacred Sites are identified on our site map. These areas need to be checked and any works completed as part of our Maintenance commitments.
BIKE CREW JOBS
Confest Bike Crew will attend and participate in the Easter 2022 working bee at the Woorooma site for the purpose of performing the following work:
(1) Ensure compliance with the Confest DTE Onsite Storage Policy by repairing the pull down devices for the cafe door and levelling the shipping container (if required)
(2) Bike servicing, repairs and maintenance
(3) Paint items to prevent loss and theft, and paint logos and branding on the shipping container to promote cultural identity
(4) Delivery of additional donated bicycles
(5) Empty and clean out then organise and arrange the efficient utilisation of space within the Bike Crew shipping container and enclosed trailer (after relocating) it with plywood boards
6) Tidy, weed, mow, clean up,remove rubbish and eliminate hazards from the area of the Bike Crew shipping container and surroundings
(7) Plan and experiment with the layout of the Bike Crew workshop, corral safety fencing, ground sheets and shelter/shade tarps and ropes
(8) Install taps to the water supply plumbing and make a sullage drain
(9) Generally perform important repairs, painting (including finishing painting plywood boards), improvements and maintenance of our DTE capital assets and guard against weathering, flooding and deterioration.
In addition, performing this work will greatly improve Confest Bike Crew's ability to:
(a) Help other 24hr worker volunteers with bike loans in a timely fashion when a festival occurs
(b) Help the public with bike repairs when a festival occurs
(c) Reduce stress of workload on the Bike Crew members (who do much more than their required share of work) during the pre-set up and set up period and festival proper of the next festival
(d) Take advantage of the absence of "customers"
(e) Build team camaraderie and skills
(f) Allow more freedom of time at the next festival for cultural activities.

DELEGATION
DTE through the Working Bee Key Facilitators, should gather and communicate with all the teams and get their participation and involvement in decisions and enthuse them to work. The ideas and suggestions of all the facilitator areas are required. Encourage the participation of facilitators for all the other areas. Facilitators who come into the working bee may submit budget applications to the OC for their area of responsibility.
